German Mince Meatball Recipe

I am sharing this recipe I got from BigOven. Sorry, I didn’t keep the name of the contributor. My bad! So this is a recipe from Anon and I love it! Approved by me and it DID taste like my favorite Ikea meatball! Love!! Ok here goes and enjoy!

My most basic (German) meatball recipe:

about 500 g mince meat

1 onion (finely chopped)

1 hard roll (or some other white bread, french bread, ciabatta or the likes – dried out and soaked in water till mushy – squeeze water out before adding to meat) (I use 10 pcs of weetameal biscuits)

1 egg

seasonings to taste

(My MIL also adds breadcrumbs to make everything less moist and more compact, you might just as well omit the soaked bread to achieve that because then the only reason you add bread is to save money by “diluting” the meat).

I like them a little fluffy, so I stuck with my own mother’s as above – the egg and the moist bread make the fluff. I mix those using either my hands or a fork. For basic meatballs I add salt, pepper and marjoram – sometimes a tsp of mustard, but you can do any other seasonings as well. (I recommend the mustard!!)

Sometimes I sautee the onion first to get them soft. Italian herbs, garlic, and (drained off the oil) marinaded dried tomatoes are very nice for party meatballs.

You can also add chopped olives, corn kernels, or whatever else if serving without sauce (eg. cold for fingerfood) Wet your hands a little to shape the meat into balls or patties and fry from all sides.

New year haul

I meant to post this a few weeks back, in the first week of the month to be exact but it remain in the draft section. Something interrupted my train of thoughts and then *poof* no mood to write :p

Well, let me continue to share with you some of the things I bought this year.

During the Metrojaya Warehouse sale:

Left: ZA Plumper Lips in 10 Brown Red, Right: Anna Sui - Rock Me Summer of Love EDT

ZA Plumper Lips in 10 Brown Red
3.5g/12 oz
RM20

It claims to provide lips with fuller and plump look with the help of Fill-up collagen. The rich red pigment provides natural yet rich color and it moisturizes lips and prevent dryness with Vitamin E in the ingredient list. I love the color but I think it is close to peach/brown hue rather than red. I will update on wether it really help to moisturize and plump my rather dry lips. So far, only Dior Rouge de Serum doesn’t dry out my lips and last the whole day.

Anna Sui – Rock Me Summer of Love EDT
50ml/1.6 oz
RM140

I love the pink and baby blue bottle, even though it does look a bit cheap. I think it is because of the plastic material. Fruity floral scent that is not too sweet and smells fresh at the same time. Combination of the flowery smell especially the water lily and rose with the white peach is really something I love! 😉

Some description:
“The flacon arrives in shape of guitar, with engraved butterfly on body of the flacon. The nuances are iridescent – ranging from pink to turquoise-blue. Composition of the new fragrance Rock Me! Summer of Love opens with bergamot, aquatic hyssop and geranium. A heart blooms with freesia, water lily and white peach, while a base encompasses musky rose, sandalwood and ambergris. The fragrance is available as 30, 50 and 75ml EDT, along with perfumed body care products.”

I am tempted to buy the Harajuku Lovers perfume by Gwen Stefani, which is selling at RM200 for two 30ml bottles. I am so in love with the cute Japanese figurine which is part of the cap for the perfume but the smell does not really impress me. It is simple, mostly sweet smell that probably more suitable for my daughter (hmm.. maybe when she is 15 :p). You get my point. Let me share the lovely Harajuku Lovers perfume bottles:

The fact that the usual retail price is RM145 per bottle of 30ml really tempt me to get it but what do I do with two bottles of cute perfume that I am not crazy about? I decided not to buy it and save the money for something better. Maybe a set of makeup brushes will be nice 😉

From Parkson Gurney Plaza:

Bobbi Brown Oil Free Even Finish Compact Foundation & Sheer Finish Press Powder

As you can see above, after a year of using these two I am running out of it and this is my 2nd purchase. I absolutely love their product! 🙂 Couple with the Oil Control Lotion with SPF 15, it makes my skin looks even and healthy. I have a dry face that tends to be oily by midday especially on the cheek and nose area, but with these lovely products I am less shiny! I admit I still need to use the oil blotter but less frequently. If you can suggest me an even better product that will stop the shine ultimately, let me know and I would love to try it out :p

On top of the two products above, they let me get a few samples to try out namely the Hydrating Eye Cream, their famous (but expensive) Cleansing Oil and Hydrating Face Tonic. I haven’t try any of them yet. I still haven’t start using Cyber Colors All-in-1 MoisturizingCleansing Water yet, coz I am currently using the Biore Cleansing Oil Cotton Facial Sheets (phew what a long name) that I love to heart! You can read a review by Beetrice here:

Finally, my haul from Watson:

Clean & Clear Oil COntrol Film – 60 sheets (I forget how much is it already)

Watson’s Blending Brush – soft nylon bristle, suitable for blending eyeshadow and concealer
RM7.95

The oil control film is the only one I have been using since, err high school and I love it. I do not like the other type that looks like a tracing paper :p hehe

Ok, I have more new year haul but let me stick to the one I bought from the stores. I have a bunch of them bought online too. Bad pregnant mommy! I am afraid I have a shopaholic baby girl in my tummy. Hubby will rub his head more often in the future I guess!

If you happen to have sometime, why not share with me what you have bought this year and why you love or hate them. I love to try out new products especially the one that works! It will give me more ideas on where or what to shop for in the future. More reason to shop opps! :p

Have a good monday and here’s wishing you a good week ahead!

Personal Review: Bobbi Brown Oil Control Lotion SPF 15

I have been searching for a hydrating lotion that will suit my skin which is a combination skin with a slightly oily T-Zone area. I am loyal to Olay total effect for two years and found that after all those year, my skin started to develop rough patches at different places and with some obvious uneven skin tone too. I guess it is a bit dry for my face and I need to find a better hydrating cream or lotion.

I do not actually do a research or ask for anyone recommendation, but I just went straight to the Bobbi Brown counter one day and ask the SA to recommend a good moisturizer for my skin. I have been using their foundation and loose powder for quite some time and love the fact that it is really smooth and it does not cause me any breakouts so far.

After taking a closer look at my skin and having heard my explanation on how I hate a heavy/sticky feel on my skin, she recommend the Bobbi Brown Oil Control Lotion for me. So far I am happy with this lotion. It can control the oil especially at the nose area very well and it is not drying to other part of my face. It moisturizes as well as leaving my skin oil-free the whole day. I am using it before I swipe the Bobbi Brown Oil-Free Even Finish Compact Foundation and Sheer Finish Pressed Powder.

“Bobbi Brown Oil Control Lotion SPF 15
Ideal for normal-to-oily and combination skins. Oil Control Lotion SPF 15 is a
lightweight, hydrating formula that keeps skin looking smooth and shine-free. Provides a soft matte finish and ensures smooth makeup application.”

Do you have any personal favorite that you would like to share? 😉 One bottle can last me for at least 4 to 5 months and I use it everyday! This is a keeper for now and I need to replenish my stock soon. If only they have this at Queensbay Mall so I don’t have to travel so far to Parkson Gurney.

Please bear with me, I am totally new at doing a review, let alone a beauty review so I might left some important information here and there. You can always drop a comment if you have any experience using it. Before I end my humble review, I wanted to wish everyone a happy new year and happy holiday! Take good care and see you again next year!

Ayunya Mee Udang ;)

Today we went to Balik Pulau to fetch my lil bro. He finished his exam for the semester and can’t wait to meet KL. I mean, who won’t miss KL right? There are so many differences between KL and Penang I will need another entry to talk about that :p To cut it short, we are hungry and it is almost 8pm. Since we are going to pass by Teluk Kumbar town to head to Gelugor, might as well stop by and have some sinfully delicious mee udang. When talking about mee udang in teluk kumbar, our favorite will be Ayu Mee Udang or i saw the sign in the shop saying Mee Udang Cantik! I guess the owner couldn’t decide between both kot! hehe

See the the fat and yummy prawns!

I am halfway through the meal, so excuse the “bersepah” look of the dish. When my bowl arrived, I can only see the gravy full of yellow noodle or we call it mee kuning. It is like looking for a treasure, you can only see the big fat prawns when you dig further underneath the noodles. What an adventure right? hehe.. I love the gravy so much cause it is hot and a lil bit sweet at the same time. Not too thick but not too thin either. Just perfect! The prawn is absolutely fresh. You can taste the sweetness when you bite into it. Hehee.. sorry if I am making you salivating. Do let me know if you plan to come to penang and need direction to go to Ayu Mee Udang. I won’t charge a single dime I promise!

My current favorite lippy

*** Updated with the (ehem..) model wearing the said coral lippy 😉 ***

lippy

n

(Clothing & Fashion) Informal lipstick

Since I gave birth to my darling daughter, I notice that some part of my face is dry and the T zone is oily as usual. Another bad thing is, my lip is dryer than usual. Most of the lipstick I have on hand will cause chapping and cracking on my lips. Either because of the changing hormones or I am getting old. I will stick to the former and close one eye on the latter. Heh :p

Then I met a match made in heaven for my dry lips. Drum roll please… It is Dior’s Serum De Rouge Luminous Color Lip Treatment. I fall in love instantly.  I know this lippy has been around for ages, ok for years, but I am new to all of this. It claims that it will plump and moisturize your lips and it does exactly that! With SPF20, you know your lips are well taken care of from the evil UV rays and what not. I am not a professional reviewer, this is base solely on my personal experience after using this lippy for about 6 month now.

I am currently using Coral Serum 730 which is described as muted coral and I love it! With one swipe it will look like a beige with a hint of warm orange on my lips. If I apply more, it will look true to the coral color but not too bright. You can glam it up by using a lip brush to have a full coverage and dab on some clear gloss or just swipe on your lips after your lip balm for a natural shine. It feels creamy on your lips but not heavy. Even after lunch and drinks, you can see the color stays even and wont create cracks and lines on your lips cause it have a plumping effect, remember? No more cracking and chapping lips! 😉

Dior Serum De Rouge

To those of you who interested to know, here’s the ingredient I got from Sephora’s:

-Mango butter + Vitamine A Palmitate: Repairs, hydrates, and smoothes lips; acts on Epidermis.

-Ruscogénine + Centella Asiatica: Plumps, firms, and defines lips; acts on Dermis.

-Commiphora Oil: Gives lips volume; acts on Hypodermis.

-SPF 20

Sounds too good to be true? Well, it have a downside actually. Only one which is the high price. It is USD32 and I believe it is around RM100 when I bought it early this year. I forgot the exact amount, though.

I'm wearing coral 730

Next, I would love to try Crimson Serum 840 which is vibrant pinkish red. I have never own a red lippy before, but I heard some review said it will be suitable for woman with caramel to dark color complexion. Or maybe Mocha Serum 910 which is reddish brown for a warm nude do. Another future must-try item for me is Dior’s Lip Maximizer. Ok time for another trip to the loo. Have a good long weekend everyone and happy Diwali!
